One Wrexham striker target was once given rave reviews by former England manager Gareth Southgate.
Wrexham have stolen the show in the summer transfer window as they look to build a top squad for the upcoming campaign.
Whilst things started slowly for the Red Dragons, who had only brought in Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle and Danny Ward from Leicester City prior to the tour Down Under, Phil Parkinson’s side has since been heavily bolstered with new recruits.
Liberato Cacace has joined Wrexham, whilst Josh Windass has also arrived after his Sheffield Wednesday departure. A deal to sign Lewis O’Brien has also been completed, with the former Nottingham Forest man set to improve Parkinson’s midfield options.
Wrexham have since been linked with a remarkable move for Christian Eriksen, whilst Patrick Bamford is an option for Parkinson to sign.
There are uncertainties as to whether Bamford has the quality to still perform in the Championship, but it is clear that he has earned enough pedigree in his career to be considered.
Patrick Bamford’s England spell will fill Wrexham fans with excitement
Understandably, some Wrexham fans may be apprehensive about the club’s current links to Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford following his limited 2024/25 season; however, he has proven to be a fantastic goalscorer at Premier League level before, let alone the Championship.
During the 2020/21 Premier League season, he scored 17 goals and notched nine assists – a brilliant return for his first full season in England’s top flight.
As a result, he was handed a call-up to England, where he notched a single cap under Gareth Southgate. Even though his time with the England camp was limited, that experience, alongside his time in the Premier League and Championship, would make him a worthy addition to Phil Parkinson’s side, even if he is set to play as a back-up forward.

What Gareth Southgate said about Patrick Bamford when he earned England call-up
When Gareth Southgate decided to hand Patrick Bamford an England call-up, he spoke about his brilliant ability and the hard work he had undertaken to achieve it.
Via the England Football website, Southgate said: “I think his progress with Leeds has been excellent and he was very close at the end of last season to being with us and this is a good chance for him to come back in – we worked with him at Under-21 level so we know him anyway – and it is a fabulous moment for him and his family.”
Bamford may be in the latter stages of his career now, but there is no denying that the experience he has picked up in his career could significantly benefit Wrexham. If the Red Dragons can come to a compromise with Leeds United, they could potentially have a former England international on the books.
