5 children hospitalized after incident at Pinecrest Glades Academy – NBC 6 South Florida

Five children were hospitalized after a medical incident at a school in southwest Miami-Dade on Friday, officials said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said crews responded to Pinecrest Glades Academy at 15250 Southwest 8th Street in Tamiami, where five children were found and taken to a local hospital.

Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed multiple fire rescue trucks outside the school, which is a K-12 charter school.

In a message to families, officials from the school said a student brought some sort of food item to campus that was shared with other students.

After they consumed the item, they started experiencing “adverse reactions,” and emergency crews were called to respond, the message said.

The incident is being investigated, the school officials said.

“Please rest assured that we are taking every necessary step to address this unfortunate situation and to ensure the continued safety of our students,” the message read. “We ask that you take a moment to remind your children of the seriousness of their actions. What may seem like a simple choice can carry very severe consequences, including potential criminal charges and school-related disciplinary measures.”
