Heat Gives Way To Strong Storms Overnight

  • Hot and humid conditions persist this evening.
  • A weakening complex of thunderstorms may tonight.
  • Additional thunderstorm chances Wednesday.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – First Alert Day remains in place through Tuesday! Hot and humid weather continues today across southern Wisconsin, with the most intense conditions focused along and south of I-94. While earlier storms helped reduce heat index values in some areas, locations like Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha are still seeing high humidity and heat, prompting the continuation of the Heat Advisory through this evening. Northern counties have been removed from the advisory as drier air has moved in behind the earlier storm system.

What’s Coming Up…

Later tonight, a weakening complex of thunderstorms is expected to approach from the northwest. Due to the disrupted atmosphere caused by this morning’s storm system, storms may struggle to hold together as they move eastward. However, if they maintain strength, gusty winds could impact areas west and southwest of Madison, though the main storm energy is expected to stay west of the Mississippi River. The environment is less favorable for severe weather in southern Wisconsin, especially with the main convection track shifted further west.

Looking Ahead…

Scattered thunderstorms are still possible Tuesday, especially along lake breezes and any lingering boundaries from overnight activity. A cold front will move through the region Tuesday night into Wednesday, likely triggering more organized showers and storms. After the front passes, conditions will dramatically improve with highs in the 70s and dew points dropping into the 50s. This marks the start of a cooler and more comfortable weather pattern expected to last through the weekend.
