CALIFORNIA, Md. — The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning for St. Mary’s County, cautioning that tidal waters could rise 1 to 2 feet above ground level in vulnerable areas through early Friday morning, Oct. 3, 2025.
The warning, posted at 3:16 p.m. Thursday, remains in effect until 4 a.m. Friday, with the greatest risk of flooding expected around tonight’s high tides. Forecasters said water levels are running 2 to 2.5 feet higher than normal, a surge that could push water into roads and yards in the county’s lowest-lying waterfront communities.
At 3.5 feet, water typically spills onto roads on St. George Island, reaches into yards, and nears structures. Similar conditions are expected at marinas along the St. Mary’s River, Smith Creek and Jutland Creek, according to weather officials.
High tide is forecast to occur at 10:28 p.m. at Point Lookout, 11:26 p.m. at Piney Point and 12:02 a.m. at Coltons Point. Residents are urged to monitor conditions, move vehicles from flood-prone areas and use caution when traveling near the shoreline overnight.
