CC Sabathia’s response to Clint Frazier hints at previous Yankees clubhouse issue

In recent weeks, former New York Yankees outfield prospect/possessor of legendary bat speed Clint Frazier has found himself a market for his podcast endeavors: Yankee fans who hate the team and really want to listen to an “insider” confirm their priors. There’s been tons of turnover since Frazier was in the clubhouse, but that doesn’t matter to his listeners. They just want to hear about how robotic Aaron Boone is, and he’s giving it to them, extrapolating his personal experiences and viewing the stretch runs through the lens of his very specific grievances.

CC Sabathia, it would seem, has zero time for that.

Also very unafraid to tell it like it is, Sabathia seems to feel a certain type of way about Frazier’s reductive analysis (or maybe just Frazier himself).

After the outfielder asked his followers if he should find a way to do a live show in the bleachers at Yankee Stadium during the playoffs (which sounds impossible?), Sabathia didn’t mince words, calling his former teammate a “f***ing clown”.

CC Sabathia holds nothing back with Instagram comment directed at former Yankees teammate Clint Frazier

While it’s impossible to say for certain whether the fracture between Sabathia and Frazier started when the two shared a clubhouse, or more recently, when the ex-outfielder began his new career out of feeding into fan frustrations by shining a negative light on all things Yankees/Aaron Boone, this certainly feels like a festering old wound. Once upon a time, Sabathia trolled Frazier from within the locker room, too, making lighthearted fun of his fashion sense on Instagram. Was this rooted in something deeper than we thought at the time?

CC didn’t even give him the time of day, well aware that his comment would be both very public and very dismissive. The Hall of Famer’s in a different stratosphere of influence from Frazier. That comment’s not getting buried by the algorithm.

Watching CC treat Frazier with the same level of vitriol he once had for Josh Reddick was certainly eye-opening. Then again, what good can come of Frazier sitting in the bleachers with a bunch of aggravated bums and stoking the animosity that they’re already harboring.

A solid effort, but certainly clown-y.
