True Haunting: True Stories of the James Wan Netflix Series

From horror director James Wan (Saw) comes a paranormal series about real-life hauntings, as documented by the people who survived them. True Haunting, which Wan executive produced, delves into two otherworldly tales across its five episodes: “Eerie Hall,” directed by Neil Rawles (The Murder of Gabby Petito: Truth, Lies and Social Media), follows a college student haunted by a spirit with a connection to his past. “This House Murdered Me,” directed by Luke Watson (Shameless), tells the story of a family terrorized by supernatural entities while renovating their Victorian home. The series also features demonologists and paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, whom Wan depicted in The Conjuring horror film franchise.

What happens in True Haunting?

The first three episodes of the series follow student athlete Chris DiCesare (Dorion) as he moves to a small upstate New York college in the 1980s. Like many college students, he’s ready to explore the world and find himself, but Chris and his dorm mates soon discover there’s something wicked stalking the halls. There’s a malevolent force that sends Chris into an emotional and mental spiral, leaving him too afraid to sleep in his own room. Determined to figure out what’s happening to him, Chris discovers a surprising connection to the spirit.

The final two episodes tell the story of April Miller (Hadjis). April, her husband, and her son move into a charming Victorian house, which April plans to renovate and preserve. At first, it seems like a dream come true — until a break-in happens, leaving the family distrustful of their new neighborhood. Even when police catch the burglar, the Millers continue to experience strange sights and sounds: pipes clanging, figures in the bathroom mirror, and an inhuman specter that threatens their son’s safety. That’s when the family calls in paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who uncover the house’s dark history.
