Game notes:
- The Kings currently sit second in the Pacific with 22 points, with an equivalent 9-5-4 record as Ottawa.
- Ken Holland’s Kings made a ton of changes in the offseason, bringing in veterans like Joel Armia, Corey Perry, Brian Dumoulin, and Cody Ceci to try and help them win a playoff round – something they haven’t done since winning the Cup in 2013-14, 11 years ago.
- Outside of Perry, those players have really… struggled, sitting at the bottom of the Kings statistics in both shot attempts and expected goals.
- The Fiala – Byfield – Laferriere is the matchup for Ottawa to watch out for, so it’ll be interesting to see how Travis Green deploys his one intact defensive pair. I wonder if it might make sense to play the Pinto line against Byfield and Sanderson against Kopitar.
- After missing shifts last time out against Boston, Jake Sanderson and Nick Jensen are both in the lineup today. Sanderson jammed his wrist, while Jensen was crumpled on the boards, so it’ll be interesting to see if either are playing with bumps and bruises or if they’re both good to go. The Sens don’t play again until Thursday, so hopefully the players can empty their tank with an off day looming tomorrow.
The game starts at 7:00pm ET and you can watch it on Sportsnet One.
