After three years away Wednesday has finally returned for its second season on Netflix, reuniting us with our favourite characters including the whole Addams family (including some fabulous new additions), sunny sweet Enid, Bianca, and Tyler. However, one person who is not making a comeback for season two is Percy Hynes White as Xavier.
In season one Xavier, was Wednesday’s sort of love interest and he was also a psychic, who could make his art come to life. At one point during the show Wednesday suspects Xavier of being the Hyde which is terrorising the town and this leads to his arrest.
After Tyler is revealed to be the Hyde, Xavier is released from prison. He reunites with Wednesday and gives her a phone which is the beginning of Wednesday getting stalked.
Given his prominent role in Wednesday’s storyline, many expected Hynes White to return for the second season as Xavier, however, here’s everything you need to know about why he’s not.
What happened to Percy Hynes White following season 1?
In January 2023, following the release of Wednesday season one in October 2022, Hynes White was accused of sexual assault by a user on Twitter.
In June that year Hynes White denied the allegations, writing on an Instagram Story: “Earlier this year, somebody I’ve never met started a campaign of misinformation about me online. Because of this, my family has been doxxed, and my friends have received death threats. Underage photos of me were used, and examples of me acting in character were presented as hateful. My friend Jane was falsely portrayed as a victim, and her attempts to set the record straight have been ignored. She gave me permission to include her in this message.”
He continued: “The rumours are false. I can’t accept the portrayal of me as someone bigoted, or criminally negligent of people’s safety. These are the kind of baseless, harmful claims that can create mistrust toward victims. It’s very distressing to know that this misinformation has upset people. I’m really thankful for everyone who’s stood by me and helped share the facts. Harassment of my family, friends and coworkers needs to stop please. Thank you for taking the time to read this.”
A year later Hynes White announced his departure from the series. On his Instagram Story he shared a picture of himself with the cast from season one, captioning it “had so much fun working on this show. I can’t wait to watch season 2 🙂 Much love.”
Jenna Ortega who plays Wednesday in the show and now serves as an executive producer for season two, spoke about Hynes White’s departure in an interview with Vanity Fair. She called his exit, “a weird redirect, but we’re introducing so many different characters that I think it kind of will get lost.”
How do they explain Xavier’s exit in Wednesday?
Having heard Xavier would no longer be part of the show, many fans wondered how they would explain the character not coming or if they would at all.
However, since the episodes were released earlier today we now know how they do it. Xavier’s exit is addressed in the first episode.
During Wednesday’s first day back at Nevermore, new Principal Dort explains that after Xavier was falsely accused of murder, his father pulled him out of the school and he’s now enrolled in Reichenbach Academy in Switzerland.
Xavier’s father also pulls his money from the school and stops being the lead of the fundraising committee which leaves the spot open for Morticia to join and keep an eye on Wednesday.
Xavier is then mentioned once again when he sends Wednesday a piece of art he’s made himself of a red-eyed crow. He explains in a letter he has a feeling it’s connected to her, writing: “Consider this my goodbye gift. The image suddenly flashed in my head. Don’t ask me how I know or what it means, but it’s connected to you I’m sure.”
And that’s the last we hear of Xavier.
