Baby at center of Clayton County Amber Alert located in Tennessee

Officers were working to reunite the 2-month-old with his mother.

REX, Ga. — The infant at the center of a Clayton County Amber Alert Tuesday afternoon has been located in Nashville, Tenn., according to police.

The Amber Alert was issued for a 2-month-old. 11Alive has removed the child’s name from the story since he has been located and is safe.

The alert advised that the baby was allegedly abducted at 8:35 a.m. on Tuesday by 25-year-old Tariq Williams. In a release, the Clayton County Police Department said Tariq is the infant’s father.

The department said the abduction occurred “during a domestic incident” in the area of Felder Road and Mt. Zion Boulevard. Police allege Tariq Williams assaulted the child’s mother and “forcibly took control” of her car, “leaving her stranded and taking off with the child.”

At the time, police said they believed the child was in “extreme danger.” Police said Williams is facings charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, simple battery, theft by taking – motor vehicle, theft by taking, interference with a 911 call and third degree cruelty to children.

An Instagram account evidently belonging to Williams was posting Tuesday afternoon to its story, including a screenshot of a news article about the Amber Alert and photos of the 2-month old. One of the photos was of a Chick-fil-A cup and tagged in Orlando, Florida, though it was unclear at the time if he had perhaps really made it that far or was just trying to make it seem that’s where he was.

The same story panels were also posted to a Facebook account appearing to belong to Williams.

In an update just after 5 p.m., Clayton County Police said its department was pleased to report that the baby had been found in Nashville.

“The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, in coordination with the Clayton County Police Department, assisted in locating the suspect, taking him into custody, and safely recovering the child,” Clayton County Police said.

Officers were working to reunite the child with his mother.
