The 5-star quarterback from Nashville Christian (Tenn.) committed to Georgia twice during his recruitment. Now he has done the opposite twice, as well. Curtis officially flipped from Georgia to Vanderbilt, ending a months-long saga with the long-time, two-time Bulldogs’ quarterback commit staying home in Nashville to play for the hometown Commodores.
It leaves Georgia at the quarterback altar for the second time in three recruiting cycles.
“I’d say, probably the biggest reason is just the relationship with coaches. Like, both schools are great, and I had a great connection with both coaches, but just going to Georgia so many times, obviously, they had a little advantage, knowing all their coaches, and getting to reach out to their coaches, and talk to them,” Curtis told Dawgs247 about why he committed to Georgia the second time.
Curtis had been on Georgia’s radar for a long time, and the staff made clear he was a foundational target, dating back to his original commitment in the spring of 2024. He committed to the Bulldogs then over several top programs before stepping off that decision until this past summer. In May, Curtis committed to Georgia over Oregon and other contenders, and the Commodores were barely a blip on Curtis’ recruiting radar.
At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, Curtis brings a rare frame and talent at the position. The nation’ s No. 3 overall player was the Bulldogs’ preferred quarterback target from start-to-finish.
Then, Clark Lea’s program — behind transfer quarterback Diego Pavia — turned a corner into national relevancy. It was a big turn from his sustained admiration for Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, who had been credited with landing Curtis.
“Yeah, I’d say just talking to Coach Bobo,” Curtis said about why he chose Georgia originally. “I’ve been up there so many times and built a relationship with all the coaches. But getting up there with Coach Bobo, and him coming down to us, so that made an impression, and just getting to talk to him was really good.”
With Curtis’ decommitment, the Bulldogs drop out of the top-5 in the 247Sports’ team rankings for the first time all cycle. It would be the first time Georgia finished outside of the top-5 during the entire Kirby Smart tenure.
