Does the ‘Stranger Things 5: Volume 2’ Trailer Hint at Who Dies Next?

The brand new trailer has dropped for Stranger Things 5 | Volume 2, and like everyone else in this dimension (and beyond), I’m absolutely obsessed and shaking about it.

Just like the trailer for Volume 1, this one is opening up doors for us to see what the next three episodes will reveal about Vecna, the nature of the Upside Down, and what the endgame could possibly be in the battle for Hawkins.

But probably the most important clue that the trailer can hint at is the fate of our most beloved characters.

So, grab some Boppers, turn on some white noise, and get ready to see if the latest Stranger Things trailer gives us any clues about who’s being killed off in Volume 2.

Who’s Gonna Die?

Okay, let’s be clear — the trailer obviously doesn’t show any deaths, but it does show some of our favorite characters in some dangerous predicaments and varying degrees of consciousness.

Does Murray Dodge That Hail of Gunfire?

If you’re a superfan of the show, then you know that if there’s gonna be any deaths in the final episodes, Murray has the biggest target on his back. Why? Because of all the minor(ish) characters, his death would be the most impactful. I mean, we love Vickie and all — and that dinner date at Enzo’s kind of sealed either her or Robin’s fate in the previous episodes — but Murray has been around since Season 2 with his paranoid hilarity and belief that everyone around him is horny for each other. (He was right…twice!)

And despite surviving that demogorgon attack in the last episode, we see Murray busting through the gates of the Big Mac to a barrage of bullets, ducking behind the dashboard as they spray the windshield.

Max is Still in a Coma…and Being Chased by Demos

Just like in the last trailer, we see Lucas carrying a comatose Max into an elevator at Hawkins Memorial Hospital as they’re being chased by demodogs. However, this time we get a lot more info about how much peril the two are actually in, including a shot of them hiding in what looks like a hospital laundry room as demos hunt them like the raptors from Jurassic Park.

Now, I doubt the Duffers would make Max’s journey through Henry’s mind such a huge part of the fifth season only to kill her off in the end — especially not in this scene, because if you keep watching, you’ll see a quick shot of an explosion in what looks like a laundry room with chunks of demoguts flying all over the place.

It’ll be interesting to see how she and Holly make it out of Camazotz and join forces with the rest of the party.

Robin and Vickie Come Face to Face with Demodogs

Speaking of that hospital scene, you want to know who first encounters those demos in the hallway? Vickie. She sees that open-faced boy creeping up around the corner, and her expression is one of absolute terror. (Duh, she’s never seen these things before.)

So, is Red the Candy Striper done for? Maybe not. In another sequence, we see that demodog run right past her and lunge toward two soldiers and…guess who…Robin. So, is Robin done for? Who knows…but we know what planning a date at Enzo’s means in the Stranger Things universe.

Steve and Dustin Say, “You Die, I Die.”

We all know that if the Duffers do this to us, it’s immediately jail, right? Okay, but…when Steve and Dustin say that iconic line from Season 3 to each other, “You die, I die,” it really makes you wonder if that was a little bit of foreshadowing.

Again — it better freaking not be. Dustin already lost Eddie last season, so it would be cruel to take Steve away from him. And Dustin is one of the originals, so he can’t die, right? RIGHT!?

Wrapping Up

The Duffers have said that this season is going to be the tonally darkest, most emotional one yet; however, let’s remember one very important thing: No. Red. Wedding.

The directing duo promised fans that there wouldn’t be a “Red Wedding” style killing spree like in Game of Thrones. But that doesn’t mean that there won’t be any “wedding” at all.

Maybe we won’t see all of our favorite characters fall one by one, but we may see — one? Or two, maybe? And if you love Stranger Things, you know that’s more than any of us can handle. We’re talking about a fandom that is STILL mourning Barb from Season 1, for god’s sake.

If there’s bloodlust that needs to be sated, you know who we offer up as a sacrifice.

Obviously, Ted Wheeler.
