Pittsburgh Steelers move on from massive offensive tackle

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released offensive tackle David Sharpe from the practice squad, the team announced on Tuesday. Sharpe was signed weeks ago when the team was dealing with injuries on the offensive line, but they are now fully healthy.

Pittsburgh now has one spot open on their practice squad. It could be for cornerback Tre Flowers, who was released from the active roster on Monday, and cleared waivers on Tuesday.

A fourth-round pick by the Raiders out of Florida in the 2017 NFL Draft, Sharpe was last with the Los Angeles Chargers earlier this year. Sharpe did not play in any games for the Steelers, and they instead elevated former Eagles offensive lineman Jack Driscoll. Driscoll signed to the active roster last week and was a game day inactive.

The over/under is sitting at 39.5 points on FanDuel for Monday’s AFC Wild Card Round contest between the Steelers and the Texans. Sharpe stands at 6-foot-6, 343 pounds and has started six games throughout his career. He is a massive player compared to even the traditional offensive tackle in the NFL, and that size has continued to allow him to receive looks over his career.

Still, the Steelers have a few other players on the practice squad in Steven Jones and Doug Nester who they like as depth pieces, too, and with their health on the offensive line back to full strength, they do not need to turn to Sharpe anymore for practice reps.
