Jimbo Fisher, former Texas A&M coach, wants to coach: ‘I’ve had success everywhere we’ve ever been’

Yes, Jimbo Fisher wants to coach again.

The former Texas A&M coach, now an analyst for the ACC Network, made it clear he is ready to stalk the sidelines.

“People have asked me that and I’ve enjoyed my family … but to answer your question, if the right situation comes along and it’s right … I’m 59, in great shape and healthy,” Fisher, who won a national championship at Florida State, said this week on the “Trials To Triumph” podcast. “I’ve had success everywhere we’ve ever been. The end at Texas A&M, it’s unfortunate, but we also had the highest-ranked team they ever had there in 2020. Our quarterbacks got hurt. We played with first-team, third-team … It was hard to get play-calling and guys around. … Didn’t pan out like we needed to, but I still love it.

“Being able to [coach], I would. I’ve won 72 percent of my games, won 80 percent of my playoff games. I’ve been fortunate to win a national championship as a head coach and assistant. I miss the relationships with players. I would be very interested in still doing it. I still think I’ve got a lot to give. I’d like to get back out there.”

The Aggies fired Fisher in 2023 in his sixth year at Texas A&M, where he signed a then-record 10 year, $75 million contract after leaving Florida State at the end of the 2017 season. The Aggies are 45-25 in that time, but just 27-21 in the SEC and have never won the SEC West.

Prior to his six-year tenure at Texas A&M, Fisher was head coach at Florida State from 2010-17. He led the Seminoles to a perfect record and the BCS national championship in 2013 and had a 82-23 record in Tallahassee.

Fisher also spent extensive time on the coaching staffs at LSU (2000-06), Auburn (1993-98) and Samford (1988-92). He played quarterback at Samford under coach Terry Bowden in the late 1980s.

Fisher joined ACC Network last month as a weekly contributor ahead of the 2025 season.
