“For the New York football Giants, I’m looking at like Davis Webb has been in the talks,” Winston told host Kay Adams. “But you know what, with us having Jaxson Dart and seeing how Ole Miss did this year in the College Football Playoff, what if we mix in Charlie Weis Jr.? I’m looking out for our young quarterback, man. I want him to be around people he’s familiar with.”
Weis Jr. coached Dart during his standout college career at Ole Miss, where Dart led the nation in total offense and passing efficiency.
Winston, who has served as a veteran presence and occasional starter for the Giants, prioritizes familiarity and chemistry to accelerate Dart’s development after a promising rookie season that included franchise records and strong performances.
The Giants, under head coach John Harbaugh, had targeted Monken to reunite their successful Ravens partnership, but Harbaugh reportedly tried unsuccessfully to dissuade him from the Browns job. This left the candidate pool thinner, with names like Davis Webb (who has opted to stay with the Denver Broncos as their OC), Jim Bob Cooter, and others in discussion.
Weis Jr. has insisted he will remain at LSU, though some still believe he would seriously consider a Giants offer to reunite with Dart — especially given his father’s past ties to the organization.
