The Virginia Cavaliers travel to Atlanta to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Wednesday. It’s the second-to-last road game for UVA. They are 7-1 in true road games and 10-2 in road/neutral site games.
UVA enters Wednesday’s matchup with a 22-3 overall record and a 10-2 record in the ACC. The Cavaliers are coming off a 70-66 win in Nashville over Ohio State. Virginia managed to secure the victory despite Ohio State shooting better from both the field and three-point range.
The difference ultimately came down to the free-throw line, as the Cavaliers made 22 of 32 compared to Ohio State’s 6 of 9. UVA was led by Malik Thomas’s 13 points. He was joined in double figures by Sam Lewis (12) and Chance Mallory (12). Ugonna Onyenso also contributed as he finished with 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
Georgia Tech is coming off an 89-74 loss to Notre Dame on the road. The loss dropped them to 11-15 overall and 2-11 in the ACC. It was their seventh straight loss in conference. Their two ACC wins have come against Boston College and NC State.
In the loss to the Irish, the Yellow Jackets allowed them to shoot 49 percent from the field, 50 percent from three, and 89 percent from the free-throw line. Leading the way for Georgia Tech was Kowacie Reeves Jr., who finished with 16 points. He was joined in double figures by Baye Ndongo (14), Akai Fleming (13), and Jaeden Mustaf (14).
After Wednesday’s game, Virginia will return home for a showdown with Miami on Saturday. UVA will officially dedicate the John Paul Jones Arena basketball court to former head coach Tony Bennett.
