Serbian forward recently signed a multi-year contract with the Washington Wizards, whom he joined last season.
In an interview with Meridian Sport, Vukcevic revealed that he always wanted to stay in the American capital:
“Washington drafted me, and now signed me on a new deal, and I’m playing the best basketball of my life! I really wanted to stay, they offered me a new deal and I accepted it straight away,” he started.
“It’s not easy, of course I want to play every game for 30 minutes, but it’s not realistic. Here, they tell you before the game are you playing or not, and that helps you really. In Partizan and Real I always had to be ready because you never know when will you play, it helped me a lot in the NBA.”
Vukcevic noted how invaluable it was for him to spend three years with Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade:
“It was tough to leave Partizan after three years. I dreamt of getting drafted from Real but they had a lot of players, and when they returned Gabriel Deck I knew I had to leave.”
“I had highest expectations when I arrived in Partizan, but I joined from Real, Partizan played EuroCup in that moment, and I wasn’t playing. It was very tough mentally. Partizan helped me to be more prepared for the NBA, I lacked self-confidence there and it’s not a secret, that’s not the problem here.”
“It really caught me off guard, especially as it happened midseason. I thought that if he was about to leave he will do it at the end of the season. It was really a shock,” Vukcevic said.
Vukcevic also boldly claims that Partizan would win the EuroLeague in 2022-23 season if incidents against Real Madrid in Game 2 didn’t happen:
“We would win the EuroLeague. I’m speaking objectively not subjectively. We played by far the best basketball in Europe. We barely lost a game since February. We were best by far, everyone wanted to avoid us,” he concluded.
