Josh Gad Gives Frozen III Update

Gad recently talked with Collider while promoting for another recent film at the Toronto International Film Festival 2025. During the interview, Gad was asked about the status of Frozen III and Frozen IV, which Disney announced will be produced simultaneously.
Gad was asked if he had completed any work on the upcoming film yet, to which he gave an honest response:
We have not started recording. We have not heard songs yet. I was lucky enough to get sort of a preview of what the movie is, and it’s going to be worth the wait. It’s pretty extraordinary what they’re doing. Pretty extraordinary. For me, my whole thing was don’t do a sequel unless there’s a reason to do a sequel. If you have a story worth telling, then call us up and let’s do it. To Jennifer Lee’s credit, she really took that note and gave herself that note and has created something that’s going to be worth the wait.

Gad confirmed he has not recorded anything for the latest Frozen installment, and that the most information he has at the moment is an early preview of the plot.

Gad later references the connected nature of the third and fourth films, noting that the story is so “grand” that it might be too large for a single film to handle:
That is above my pay grade. I think the plan, what they’ve announced, is that there is a Frozen 3 and 4 in the works. The story that I’ve been kind of previewed is the grandest story we’ve ever done, so I anticipate it’s going to be a little too much for one movie.

The interviewer started to speculate that Disney might attempt a type of cliffhanger or continued story for the third and fourth films, to which Gad provided a more humorous, likely fake response:
Well, when people see Olaf get assassinated, I think it’s going to raise a lot of questions that are going to have to be answered.

Disney first announced the release year of Frozen III during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, though the existence of Frozen IV had already been revealed earlier by Disney CEO Bob Iger. The preview also included the first piece of concept art for the film.
Frozen III is set to premiere in theaters on Wednesday, November 24, 2027. Frozen IV does not have a release date yet.
