“I’m just humbled, happy. Always good to be a part of this organization,” Porcher said Sunday. “It’s been now 33 years since I came here. Still getting noticed. … It is good to be here. I’m happy that my kids are here. They’re all adults. When I retired, my youngest was 5, so she really didn’t remember any of this. But now she gets to experience it. My parents are still here. That’s just a blessing.”
Porcher was in Allen Park this offseason, taking in training camp. He spoke with Aidan Hutchinson, letting the pass rusher know he was available, should he ever need anything. Hutchinson entered Sunday with 28½ sacks over 40 career appearances.
“Aidan is off to a great, great start, man,” Porcher said. “He is a phenomenal young player. The sky is the limit for him. I’m just one of many alums who’ve played before. It’s his seat now, but eventually it’ll become somebody else’s, just like it was mine one time and then it became James Hall’s, and them somebody else after him. Aidan is on the right track. I wish him nothing but the best.”
Teammates of Porcher’s already in the Pride of the Lions include Barry Sanders (inducted in 2009), Jason Hanson (2013), Herman Moore (2018), Spielman (2021) and Brown (2023).
“I think somebody asked me the other day, ‘So, you don’t get tired of people coming up and saying things?’ Well, it could’ve been the other way where they just walk past me and say, ‘You suck.’ They don’t say that, so I think everything has worked out OK.”
