Gorleston engineer dies in hospital of ‘self-inflicted’ burn

Luke Halladay died at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital earlier this month, where he was being treated for severe injuries.

An inquest into the 41-year-old’s death was opened at Norfolk Coroner’s Court this week.

It heard that Mr Halladay, who was born in Great Yarmouth and lived in Gorleston, died on Friday, July 18.

The provisional medical cause of his death was given as self-inflicted burns.

Following a short hearing, Samantha Goward, senior coroner for Norfolk, adjourned the case until the afternoon of April 29.

She added that evidence had been requested from the region’s mental health services, police and his family, who have been invited to provide the court with a tribute and pen portrait.
