Bill Burr says Alabama ‘not as good without Nick Saban,’ Auburn has ‘few tough years’

Bill Burr isn’t afraid to tell you what he thinks.

During the comedian’s “Monday Morning Podcast,” he revealed he is headed to Auburn this season for the annual Iron Bowl showdown with Alabama on Nov. 29.

“I’ve picked out the college football game that I’m going to go to this year,” he said. “I got the green light from my wife, because this was the hard one. It’s Auburn-Alabama, in Auburn, and it’s the Saturday after Thanksgiving.”

The comedian and actor is very familiar with SEC football. In 2022, he shared with AL.com his love of college football. He had been to Bryant-Denny Stadium for Alabama’s 2017 win over Fresno State, as well as the Tide’s 21-17 victory over LSU at Tiger Stadium in 2012.

“I always try to watch LSU, but I’m going to try to be, like, staying up on that (Alabama and Auburn),” he said on his podcast. “I just don’t want to go to a game that’s that big historically and not know who the quarterbacks are and s— like that.

Burr said he knew the energy for the Iron Bowl showdown would be intense and mentioned Nick Saban’s retirement:

So what does he think about this year’s version of the Tide and the Tigers?

“I know Saban’s retired,” he said, adding Auburn has had a few tough years.” “It’s a whole new time with paying players and s—. Alabama, you know, it’s Nick Saban. They’re not going to be as good without Nick Saban, but they’re still Alabama. And I know Auburn kind of goes up and down. I haven’t heard anything from them the last few years.”

In 2022, Burr revealed had he started following the Saban-led LSU Tigers.
