The Milwaukee Brewers honored the life of the legendary Bob Uecker on Sunday Aug. 24 at American Family Field.
TORONTO – The Milwaukee Brewers try for an interleague series sweep and to set a new franchise record as they finish up their brief Canadian road trip against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 31.
The Brewers enter Sunday having won 21 games in the month of August; one more would mark the most ever by the team.
An eventful first inning
Jackson Chourio legged out a one-out infield single, showing his hamstring is truly good to go. Then, two batters later, William Contreras slugged a first-pitch home run out to left to give the Brewers a quick 2-0 lead.
It was the ninth homer this month for Contreras, who’s up to 17 and counting on the season.
Woodruff began his outing by plunking George Springer, then with one out Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a grounder to the right side. Andrew Vaughn fielded it and threw to second base for at least a forceout, but the ball sailed wide as there appeared to be some miscommunication between Brice Turang and Andruw Monasterio as to who was covering.
The runners ended up on second and third. Two batters later, Nathan Lukes doubled to left to tie it and a batter after that Ernie Clement singled Lukes in to leave Milwaukee in a 3-2 hole.
