Denny’s Launches ‘Sticky Kicks’ Sneakers Filled With Real Syrup

NEED TO KNOW

  • Denny’s is launching “Sticky Kicks” — syrup-filled sneakers — for National Syrup Day on Dec. 17
  • The high-top sneakers, designed by shoe artist Mache, contain real syrup “for real drip fans,” per an announcement from the brand
  • “Sticky Kicks are impractical, unnecessary, and completely over the top, which is exactly why we love them,” said Ellie Doty, Denny’s senior vice president and chief brand officer

Syrup isn’t just for breakfast foods — just ask Denny’s!

The popular diner chain announced the launch of their one-of-a-kind “Sticky Kicks,” a pair of sneakers highlighting some of the restaurant’s most notable breakfast hallmarks, Denny’s announced in a statement on Dec. 10. The eatery’s new footwear — which, yes, includes real syrup encased on the sides — will debut just in time for National Syrup Day on Dec. 17

“Sticky Kick[s] features tumbled yellow accents on the tongue and heel, the iconic Denny’s logo embossed on the heel counter and, for real drip fans, clear paneling revealing the actual syrup encased within to complete the ultimate sticky drip design,” the announcement read.

The syrupy shoe style retails for $195, Denny’s shared, and will be available in adult sizes 8-13. The footwear goes on sale on National Syrup Day on Dec. 17, starting at 12 p.m. exclusively at DinerDrip.com, per the announcement. Denny’s Rewards members will get one hour of early access.

The original style features a clear, sealed panel on the side of the high-top shoe with Denny’s syrup inside, “making them equal parts diner art and streetwear statement,” Denny’s proclaimed. The shoes also feature “syrup-colored patent leather,” yellow accents and a Denny’s logo embossed on the heel.

Footwear artist and designer Mache is the mind behind Denny’s Sticky Kicks, the restaurant shared. Mache is known for his many collaborations with footwear brands, as well as national sports leagues including the NFL, MLB, NBA and WWE.

“Sticky Kicks was just the right mix of over the top theming and maintaining the high standards of materials and fabrications that our sneakers are known for.” said Mache, whose real name is Dan Gamache. “Though it had its sticky moments in the research and development phases, creating this true collector’s shoe is something we are all so proud of.”

However, Denny’s warned fans that no matter how hungry they get, they should not puncture the shoes to eat the syrup, noting that the syrup is decorative and “for style only.”

“Sticky Kicks are impractical, unnecessary, and completely over the top, which is exactly why we love them,” said Ellie Doty, Denny’s senior vice president and chief brand officer, in the release. “At Denny’s, syrup isn’t just something we serve. It’s part of who we are. It’s our golden thread. So, it only makes sense we’d be the first to turn it into fashion.”
