“Emilea is just a talented person,” Kolesnik said of his partner, according to a report from NBC Olympics. “She understands skating better than a lot of other people. She works really hard. She has this natural performance ability. She’s very athletic as well, because she used to do gymnastics when she was younger.”

Yes, Zingas and Kolesnik are dating. The Novi, Michigan-based duo has confirmed that they’re dating, but they’re not married yet.

Being at the Olympics is a dream come true for the duo. “Zingas, 23, daughter of two physicians from Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, had tried to make the 2022 Olympics as a singles skater representing Cyprus, her father’s native land,” NBC Olympics notes. “When she failed to earn a spot in the final qualifying event, the disappointment overwhelmed her.” Now, that disappointment has turned into smiles.

Kolesnik, 24, came  to the Detroit area in 2016 from Kharkiv, Ukraine, for a tryout with coach Igor Shpilband. Now, the two are a duo and making history together.

“Being in a position that maybe not a lot of people expected me to be in, transitioning from singles, I felt kind of sometimes like an imposter,” Zingas told NBC Olympics. “I put all of the weight of the world on my shoulders. I just wanted that result. I wanted it to be this number or this score or this placement. I wanted it so bad that I was kind of getting in my own way.”

Good News for Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik

“Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik set a new personal best to spearhead a Team USA podium sweep in the ice dance competition at the ISU Four Continents Championships 2026 in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, on Friday (23 January),” the Olympics website reported in January 2026.

They added, “The U.S. figure skaters were in dominant form in both the rhythm and free dance portions of the competition, walking away with a combined winning score of 202.86 points.”

It was an impressive showing. “Running away with the competition, Zingas and Kolesnik threw down the gauntlet in the rhythm dance section on Thursday, falling just short of their personal best with a score of 79.97 points,” the site notes.

So, Zingas and Kolesnik feel like the kind of Olympic partnership that goes deeper than choreography. You can see the trust in the small moments and the way they reset after a mistake.
