Emporia Police Department Responds to an Active Shooter Alarm at Newman Regional Health | Free

The Emporia Police Department has given the all-clear for Newman, following a sweep of the building.

 Steven Bazan, Public Information Officer with Newman Regional Health has issued the following statement on behalf of Newman Regional Health. 

 

At approximately 4:15 PM today, an active shooter alarm was triggered at our facility, initiating our emergency response protocols.

 

We are currently still operating under our drill response. At this time, there has been no communication or indication of any activity consistent with active shooter event other than the law enforcement response.  The alarm switch that was pulled activated the protocol, and the Emporia Police Department remains on site, actively sweeping and scanning the building. Officers are escorting departments and individuals out of the facility in an orderly and controlled manner.

 

All staff and patients are safe and continuing to follow protocol.

Phone lines are currently unavailable as our team remains engaged in the response. A designated phone line will be provided for family inquiries. 

 

Updates will also be posted on our website as they become available.

 

We will release a full statement once all details have been confirmed

Update as of 5:30 p.m.

“This evening, EPD responded to an active shooter alarm at Newman Regional Health, a statement from the City of Emporia said. “Officers thoroughly searched the premises, and it appears to be an alarm only — no active threat has been identified. Please continue to use caution in the area while we remain on scene.”

 

Newman Regional Health has not confirmed this but will be issuing another statement soon.

The Emporia Police Department is currently conducting a full sweep of Newman Regional Health in response to an active shooter alarm, which was triggered at the hospital at approximately 4:20 p.m. 

Steven Bazan, Public Information Officer for NRH, says that once the alarm was triggered, the Emporia Police Department responded promptly. Additionally, staff and patients have followed established safety protocols and are being released from the building in an orderly fashion. 

“At this time, our team is still actively engaged in response efforts, and phone lines are not yet available for family inquiries,” Bazan said. “A designated phone line will be provided shortly for families seeking information about loved ones. 

Bazan says updates will also be posted on the Newman Regional Health website at www.newmanrh.org as they become available.
