Fox News Host Offers Eyebrow-Raising Strategy To Help Solve Nancy Guthrie Case

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld suggested Wednesday that “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie take a polygraph test to help solve the case of her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie. (Watch the video below.)

The intent, he said, is to pressure other family members and people in her orbit to submit to a lie detector test as well.

On “The Five,” he brought up his idea with lawyer Paul Mauro, a Fox News contributor who specializes in criminal justice analysis.

“So, Paul, I want to revisit my strategy to solving this case, and that would be having the least likely suspect, Savannah Guthrie, offer to do a polygraph, which will then put necessary pressure on others inside and outside the circle to do the same,” Gutfeld said on Wednesday. “Since no one has been ruled out, it’s one step forward in ruling in and anybody who says no or bristles looks unusual. What do you say to that?”

“Well, my understanding as of now is that they haven’t done anything relative to a polygraph,” Mauro replied. “I’m not sure we would have necessarily have heard, but I think we would with the way things have been going out here. And as we all know, it’s not admissible in court but it can be a pointer. … I get that. You’re trying to smoke people out that might be close to the situation.”

Nancy Guthrie has not been seen since the night of Jan. 31, when she had dinner with her other daughter, Annie Guthrie, and her husband, Tommaso Cioni.

Images of an armed masked person at her door emerged this week in the suspected kidnapping from her Tucson-area home. A glove, perhaps belonging to the person in the images, was reportedly found on Wednesday about 1.5 miles from her house. But there is still no suspect and a deadline issued in a purported ransom demand passed this week.

The slow progress had already prompted Gutfeld to float his idea on Monday on the conservative channel.

Have they given everyone polygraphs?” he asked. “I don’t believe they have. I think Savannah Guthrie might wanna volunteer to do a poly and say, ‘I just don’t want people to speculate that I might be involved.’”

He continued, “It puts everyone else in her circle obligated to do a poly. They might have declined to do it before, but if you actually say, ‘I’m willing to do it,’ and everybody else decides to do it, great.”
