Aaron Rodgers elected not to share how often he still communicates with members of the Jets ahead of Sunday’s game against his former team. While Rodgers decided to keep that under wraps, one of his former teammates, Jets’ teammate Garrett Wilson, apparently had no issue detailing his relationship — or lack thereof — with the Steelers’ new starting quarterback since he left the Jets this offseason.
Rodgers’ quick on-field connection with Wilson was on full display on “Hard Knocks” during the Jets’ 2023 training camp. It appears, though, that whatever relationship the two had during their brief time as teammates was short lived.
“I ain’t talked to Aaron since he left,” Wilson said. “So, wish him the best this season. But, yeah, we ain’t chopped it up since he left.”
On the field, Rodgers and Wilson had what could be considered a successful partnership. Last year, Wilson set career-highs with 101 receptions for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns during his only season with Rodgers as his quarterback. This season, Wilson will look to have a successful connection with Justin Fields, Pittsburgh’s former quarterback and Wilson’s college teammate at Ohio State.
In Pittsburgh, Rodgers has quickly developed a bond with many of his new teammates, including two-time Pro Bowl receiver DK Metcalf. Metcalf, who was Rodgers’ suite mate during training camp, acknowledged this week that Sunday’s game does have special meaning for Pittsburgh’s new starting quarterback. The Jets, after all, decided to part ways with Rodgers after just two seasons.
“I know there’s kind of a bad taste left in his mouth from the previous year,” Metcalf said. “He just wants to go out there and win as many games as he can.”
