“The issue with Google Meet began at 10:25 PDT on 2025-09-08 and has been resolved for all affected users as of 2025-09-08 11:18 PDT,” a representative for Google said in a post to the Google Workspace Status dashboard.

“From preliminary analysis, the root cause of the issue is a recent change in content edge cache,” the post said. “Our engineers have resolved the issue by rolling back the change. We thank you for your patience while we worked on resolving the issue.”
Outage reports began to spike at around 10:22 a.m. PT on DownDetector, reaching more than 14,000 in just a few minutes. (Disclosure: Downdetector is owned by the same parent company as CNET, Ziff Davis.)
Google acknowledged the issue around 11 a.m. PT.
When attempting to join a video call during the outage, Google Meet allowed me to click “join now,” but I was then met with a blank screen where the video call was supposed to open up. Others reported being met with an endlessly turning wheel, without even being able to see the “join now” button.
