With a new head coach in tow, they visited the Denver Broncos in a bid to end their 11-game winning streak and open up the possibility of the one-seed for themselves. A strong first half saw them take the lead going into the halftime break. However, the Jaguars were managing their success without arguably their best wide receiver, Brian Thomas Jr., having a great showing.
What Happened to Brian Thomas Jr.?
Even with 14 points on the board, the Jaguars’ offense had made a concentrated effort to be dynamic with their attack. Splitting between passing and running plays, they were consistently moving the ball against one of the best defenses in the league.
However, an inexplicable sophomore slump for Thomas also continued against the Broncos. Despite the overall execution of the offense, he was only able to manage two receptions on his three targets for 18 receiving yards in the game.
The offense as a whole had been spectacular. Facing a defense that ranked second in the league on PFSN’s Defense Impact, they managed to put up 17 points in the first half, taking a solid lead into the halftime break.

However, the production from Thomas left a lot to be desired, a theme that had permeated through the Jaguars all season long. After an electric rookie season that saw him emerge as the fourth-ranked player on PFSN’s WR Impact, Thomas has fallen all the way to 62nd this year.
That drop has coincided with a demonstrably huge drop in production as well. After tallying 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie, he’s totaled just 601 yards and two touchdowns in his second season, while also missing three games with a hamstring injury.
However, the offense as a whole has also struggled to begin the year, with a new system forcing quarterback Trevor Lawrence to adjust to a new curve. But after an electric three-week stretch from the former first overall pick, it looks like things are trending in the right direction for the unit.
As they prepare for a deep run through the playoffs, Jacksonville must hope that its offensive turnaround can also lead to Thomas breaking out of his slump.
