An MSNBC analyst openly criticized President Trump’s use of the National Guard in DC, despite recently being a victim of crime in the capital.
In an article for The Atlantic, titled ‘Why Is the National Guard in D.C.? Even They Don’t Know’, Ashley Parker blasted the troops on the ground as being ‘an occupation’.
In Parker’s eyes, the presence of the troops had ‘chilled life in the city’ and ‘terrified’ some people in the city.
Parker, who co-wrote the piece with Nancy A. Youssef, said: ‘To some – especially undocumented immigrants – the presence is disconcerting at best, terrifying at worst.’
The two added that it ‘was clear no one felt particularly good about the arrangement’, saying ‘even National Guardsmen didn’t want to be there’ and mocked their presence.
Following the publication, social media sleuths managed to dig up a post that showed Parker had directly complained about crime in DC as recently as June.
‘After another bike was stolen last night, my husband and I realized our life as DC homeowners by the numbers includes: 1 stolen car; 2 stolen scooters/Vespas; 3 stolen bikes; a partridge in a pear tree; etc’, Parker posted to X.
Users have quickly pointed out what they described as her ‘hypocritical’ stance, after previously complaining about crime but now changing her tune.

One person posted: ‘A liberal caught lying, there is a shocker’, with another blasting Parker as a ‘horrible writer and hypocrite’.
‘She’s another despicable hypocrite ‘elite’ just like her colleagues’, another user posted to X.
One quoted her previous post, writing: ‘That you??? So did you change your position or are you completely full of s***???’
The article had also described the deployment as being ‘sitcom-esque’ and quoted sources who likened the troops to gardeners, after a number of them picked up litter.
It added: ‘The banality of the National Guard’s daily patrols belies a far more complicated reality for the city’s residents, the men and women of the National Guard, even the nation itself – colored by race, class, immigration status, lived experience, and, of course, personal politics.
‘The absent nannies and house cleaners are a frustrating inconvenience for the families who employ them, but a physical manifestation of the sense of menace that those employees feel.’
As of last week, National Guardsmen on the ground are now armed with guns in an effort to double down on the crackdown.
The Pentagon stated the mission is still focused on being seen as a visible deterrent to crime while supporting law enforcement.

The White House says over 1,200 people have been arrested since Trump took over the city
Trump wants to replicate this military takeover in other Democratic cities that he sees as having issues with crime.
The president previously said he was considering sending troops into Chicago and New York to conduct a similar crackdown operation.
The White House says over 1,200 people have been arrested and 135 firearms have been seized since the surge started on August 7.
The city’s police department says crime rates have plunged in the district, including a 60 percent decrease in carjackings, a 56 percent drop in robberies and a 58 percent reduction in violent crimes as of Wednesday compared to the same one-week period in 2024.
Over 30 people arrested during the crackdown have been charged in district court, where the most serious crimes are prosecuted.
The Daily Mail has approached Parker for comment.
