SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) is set to meet Thursday morning to consider a proposal that could significantly raise utility bills for National Grid customers across the state.
On the agenda: a vote on National Grid’s proposed three-year rate plan. If approved, the average residential customer could see their bill increase by $22 per month in the first year, rising to nearly $50 more per month by the third year.
National Grid says the additional revenue would support upgrades to strengthen the power grid, improve storm response, and invest in clean energy initiatives that align with New York’s climate goals.
According to the company, the need for greater reliability is urgent—last winter alone, New York experienced 61 storms, with 24 of them impacting more than 51,000 customers.
The PSC’s decision could come as early as today, and it may have a lasting impact on both customers’ wallets and the state’s energy future.
