Ollie Palmer verdict on Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac is devastating to read now as Wrexham star nears exit

Ollie Palmer’s time at Wrexham looks to be coming to an end, after a flurry of attacking arrivals at the Racecourse.

Ollie Palmer is another player who goes down as a modern-day legend at Wrexham. The 33-year-old striker has been with the club throughout this epic rise up the Football League, winning promotion from the National League, League Two, and then League One last time round.

But in the second half of last season, Palmer was exiled under manager Phil Parkinson. Speaking earlier this summer, Parkinson explained why he exiled Palmer at Wrexham, along with Paul Mullin, saying: “When we brought two strikers in January, we always knew we’d have a surplus of, and people would find themselves out of the 18-man squad because you can only have seven substitutes.”

In recent weeks, Wrexham have added the likes of Josh Windass and Kieffer Moore to their attack, further pushing Palmer down the pecking order. It looks nailed on that Palmer now leaves the club.

What Ollie Palmer said about Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac is gutting to read now

Wrexham Insider recently revealed that Palmer has been offered to a number of clubs this summer, including his former team, AFC Wimbledon, who won promotion from League Two last time round.

Where Palmer eventually ends up remains to be seen, though an exit is certainly looking nailed on, and it will bring an end to an era for the club and for Palmer too, with the striker having been something of an icon over the last few years.

It will be a sad exit for the fans and for Palmer, no doubt, and for owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac too. Speaking previously, Palmer stated how much of a fan he is of Reynolds and Mac and their running of the club.

He hailed their genuine kindness and caring nature with everyone at the club, saying earlier this summer: “The biggest compliment I can give them is that they make themselves relatable. They’re, it’s like they’re one of the boys you know and they spend a lot of time with us outside of football as well.

“They just want to help you in any way, shape or form and they have a genuine interest, and what you see with them is what you get. Some people might think they’re doing it for the cameras but they’re not.”

After Ollie Palmer, another Wrexham hero could soon leave

It’s clear that Reynolds and Mac have a good relationship with all the players. It’s also clear that they want to make every newcomer feel welcome with many stories of how arrivals have received a phone call from one of the two co-owners.

And as Wrexham’s rise at the Football League continues, we are going to see more and more previously key players move on. Earlier in the summer, Mullin left Wrexham on loan to join Wigan Athletic, and with Palmer set to follow suit as well.

But there is another key player who could also move on this summer in Elliot Lee. Recent reports have revealed how Lee could leave Wrexham in this summer’s transfer window. Likewise with Palmer, Lee’s midfield department has seen a number of new arrivals in Lewis O’Brien and George Thomason, and there’s also another midfield player looking set to arrive in Lewis Koumas.

That pushes Lee down the pecking order, and whilst he might be a good squad player next season, the midfielder may want to keep on playing regularly, and so a move could well be on the cards for the 30-year-old.

Should Mullin, Palmer and Lee all leave this summer, it will certainly be a tough one for fans to take.
