Packers vs. Seahawks: What to watch for

GREEN BAY – The Packers wrap up the 2025 preseason against the Seahawks on Saturday at Lambeau Field.

Here are some topics of interest:

Every NFL team must cut its roster to 53 players by 3 p.m. CT Tuesday, so this is the final audition for those vying for a spot.

It’s impossible to know exactly how many roster berths are up for grabs in this last game, but some are certainly undecided. Injury situations will factor into Tuesday’s decisions, along with special-teams abilities.

Who amongst Malik Heath, Julian Hicks and others will make that final push at wide receiver? Or Amar Johnson, Israel Abanikanda and others at running back? And on and on.

It’s not just about the 53-man roster, either. After the waiver period expires Wednesday, teams will re-sign players to the practice squad, so those spots are on the line, too. Final impressions matter.

Third quarterback uncertain

Head Coach Matt LaFleur indicated Malik Willis will most likely start Saturday’s game as Jordan Love’s top backup, but the race for the third spot between Sean Clifford and Taylor Elgersma is going down to the wire.

It’s unclear whether the Packers would keep a third QB on the 53-man roster, or have that player on the practice squad. It’s most likely the latter. In any event, the third-year pro Clifford and Canadian rookie Elgersma are battling for one spot.

Elgersma got the larger amount of playing time in the second preseason game in Indianapolis, with Clifford finishing the contest. Both played well and led scoring drives. It’s tough to gauge which way this one will go.
