BOSTON — Shortstop Trevor Story, third baseman Alex Bregman and second baseman Romy Gonzalez are not in the Red Sox lineup Saturday after Boston clinched a postseason spot last night.
The Red Sox (88-72) will host the Tigers (86-74) for the second game of a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m.
The Red Sox clinched one of the final two Wild Card spots. Different scenarios need to play out Saturday and Sunday before their seed and opponent are determined.
Boston isn’t too concerned whether it receives the fifth or sixth seed because it will play on the road either way. So the Sox would rather rest some players.
David Hamilton will play shortstop and serve as the leadoff hitter. Nate Eaton will play third base while Nick Sogard will be at second base.
