‘Sister Wives’ star Kody Brown reveals the downside to polygamy

Kody Brown has been one of the faces of polygamy thanks to his show, “Sister Wives,” but he’s revealing it isn’t an easy lifestyle.

In a clip from tonight’s episode of “Special Forces” on Fox, fellow recruit Andrew East asked Kody about the pros and cons of polygamy.

Kody gets candid, replying, “I had 18 kids with four wives. It has been three divorces and I would never do that again — I would never marry again.”

The 56-year-old was married to Meri Brown, Janelle Brown and Christine Brown when “Sister Wives” began in 2010, and he added fourth wife Robyn in 2014.

However, the marriages didn’t last. Christine and Kody split in 2021, followed by Janelle in 2022, and Meri in 2023.

During his one-on-one interview, Kody revealed the impact of the divorces on his family.

“There ended up being some bad blood with family over the divorces and in some cases with my children, communication has ceased.”

He later added, “When you don’t have a deep connection with your children, that is a disappointment. But there are probably certain things I won’t own. I will own where I should.”

Kody was also asked about his decision to pursue polygamy, describing himself as a believer.

“I grew up in an entire culture that had it as a side note to their belief system. My dad had three wives,” he told his fellow recruits.

Kody isn’t the only person from his plural marriage who isn’t interested in doing polygamy again.

During the season finale episode of “Sister Wives: One on One,” Meri, Janelle, and Christine all seemed iffy at best about the idea. Meri said she still believes in it, but it only works if everyone is committed, while Janelle said she’s open to the idea, but doesn’t see it happening in the near future. Christine didn’t end up answering directly, but had said in past interviews she’s no longer following the lifestyle with her new husband, David.

Robyn, Kody’s current and only wife said she would consider it with certain guarantees, but is scared of it at the moment.

During that episode, Kody gave an emphatic “hell no” to the idea, saying his polygamy “already failed” and that it can’t work if you fall in love the way he did with Robyn.
