According to a social media post from the police department, an alleged armed man was shot by Stockton police officers during a foot chase on Tuesday night.
According to the Stockton Police Department, officers conducted a “proactive enforcement” stop at Doray Court and Pixie Drive after 6 p.m. on Tuesday. They say once on scene, they found a 19-year-old male sitting in a vehicle that was double-parked at the end of Doray Court.
Police said that before the chase, Robinson ignored officers’ commands and resisted them trying to detain him, briefly struggling with them before breaking free. The man allegedly tried to grab the handgun while officers were chasing him. Police said officers feared for their safety and fired their guns, striking the man.
The man was later identified as Rocco Robinson, 19, of Stockton.
“Officers immediately rendered medical aid to the suspect. AMR arrived and transported the suspect to an area hospital. The suspect was later pronounced deceased,” police said in the post. “No officers were injured during this incident.”
The shooting is under investigation and is being conducted by multiple agencies, in accordance with county-wide protocol. All involved officers were placed on paid administrative leave.
At the scene, police said they recovered a ghost gun with one round in the chamber, along with two high-capacity magazines — one extended magazine with 26 bullets and another fully loaded 17-round magazine.
