LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – 1:45 AM SUNDAY: Showers and storms are leaving SWLA with the severe threat over for the area.
Rain will push out early Sunday morning, ending from about 5 AM – 10 PM west-to-east.
The rest of Sunday looks better with sun and some clouds and highs in the low 80s. It will still be a bit humid, but overall outdoor plans look to be in better shape especially for the afternoon.

Monday will be a quiet day before we track the next front that moves in Tuesday night. This will bring a chance for a few showers or a storm Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning though severe weather is not currently expected. If the timing holds, rain should leave Wednesday morning replaced with gusty northerly winds. That will usher in the first significant cooldown of the Fall.

Highs Wednesday through Friday will drop to the mid 60’s to mid 70’s. We’ll likely drop to the 40’s Thursday night as well. This means Gumbo weather will be in full force. And Halloween looks like a nice day with low 70’s in the afternoon, but upper 40’s to low 50’s for lows. So it should be a cool one for trick-or-treating.

In the tropics, Melissa is about to strengthen quickly and may even approach category 5 status en route to Jamaica. Unfortunately that means lots of rain, flooding and high winds for the Island nation. But its path to the Gulf is closed so it is not a threat to SWLA.
