Tennis Tracker: Alcaraz and Pegula in action as Gauff moves through, Navarro stunned

The top seeds on the WTA and ATP tour begin their Cincinnati journey this weekend, with Carlos Alcaraz, Alex De Minaur and Coco Gauff in action on a fascinating Sunday.

21:41 CET – 20-year-old qualifier Ella Seidel has just caused a seismic upset in Cincinnati, stunning eighth seed Emma Navarro from a double break down in the third set to win 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. The German reeled off five straight games as she moved into the third round.

21:15 CET – Veteran Roberto Bautista Agut didn’t have too many issues against Cameron Norrie, beating the Brit in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

20:55 CET – World number two Coco Gauff is off and running in Cincinnati, easing to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Xinyu Wang to seal her spot in the third round.

Ninth seed Andrey Rublev also claimed a win, fending off young American talent Learner Tien 7-6(4), 6-3 in an hour and three quarters.

20:48 CET – 19-year-old Jakub Mensik has cruised into the Cincinnati third round, swatting aside Ethan Quinn in an hour and a quarter, 6-4, 6-2.

20:29 CET – Some more disappointing withdrawal news to report, with Marta Kostyuk announcing that she is pulling out of the tournament with a wrist injury ahead of her clash with Iga Swiatek tomorrow. Hopefully she can get fit before the US Open gets underway.

20:13 CET – 31st seed Magda Linette is the next player through to the third round after two very contrasting sets against Rebecca Sramkova, downing the Slovakian 7-6(4), 6-0.

19:25 CET – Jelena Ostapenko has moved into the third round without even having to pick up a racket after her opponent, Camila Osorio, withdrew from their clash.

19:22 CET – Jasmine Paolini was given a stern test by Maria Sakkari, squandering a 5-1 lead in the first set before eventually grinding out a 7-6(2), 7-6(5) win.

Dayana Yamstremska also progressed through to the third round, defeating Viktoriya Tomova 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

19:07 CET – Veronika Kudermertova has secured a fine win in Cincinnati, overcoming recent Wimbledon semi-finalist Belinda Bencic 6-4, 7-6(0) in exactly two hours.

Meanwhile, Jiri Lehecka had to battle back from a set down to clinch a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Tristan Boyer.

19:02 CET – Ashlyn Krueger had to compose herself after being bagelled in the second set, but in the end, she ultimately had too much for Latvian Anastasija Sevastova, winning 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 to move into the third round in Cincinnati.

18:53 CET – The first result of the day is in, and there has been a major upset! Sixth seed Alex de Minaur has been stunned by Reilly Opelka, with the big-serving American dumping out the Aussie 7-6(6), 6-4 in an hour and 40 minutes.

17:04 CET – Players are out on the court now in Cincinnati and proceedings are about to get underway!

Up first on Saturday is top ten seed Alex De Minaur, who takes on home player Reilly Opelka from 17:00 CET.

Elsewhere on the ATP side of the tournament, a fascinating clash takes place between two experienced players on the tour as Roberto Bautista-Agut takes on Cam Norrie.

Later in the evening, world number two Carlos Alcaraz makes his return to action after the disappointment of losing the Wimbledon final to Jannik Sinner last month.

The Spaniard faces Damir Dzumhur in what should be a comfortable opening match.
