UPS offers buyouts for drivers to leave company

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – UPS is offering drivers nationwide, including here in the metro, a buyout to leave the company.

In a letter obtained by 3 On Your Side, UPS said they are offering a generous financial package to drivers who voluntarily leave.

The plan offers $1,800 for each year of service.

For a driver who has 27 years of service with UPS, that package would amount to more than $48,000.

The minimum payout is $10,000.

In April, the company announced it would be cutting 20,000 jobs in 2025.

A representative with the Teamsters Union tells us all local unions will be filing legal complaints against UPS for violating a contract agreement reached in 2023.

Drivers have until July 31 to accept the buyout.

The company released the following statement on Friday afternoon:

The hard work and dedication of our drivers, and every UPSer, fuels the success of our company as we serve customers and communities around the world.

As we navigate an unprecedented business landscape, we are executing the largest network reconfiguration in UPS history. For the first time ever, in recognition of these unique circumstances, we are offering our full-time U.S. drivers the opportunity to participate in a voluntary program that provides an opportunity to receive a generous financial package if they choose to leave UPS. The financial package available through this program is in addition to any earned retirement benefits, including pension and healthcare. Each driver has the ability to decide if this voluntary program is beneficial to their family and the plans they have for their future.

As we work through our network reconfiguration, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing our customers with the reliable, industry-leading service they expect from UPS.
