Wet and stormy night brings chance of severe gusts | 13Weather Blog

Another round of much-needed rain may cause street flooding and localized wind damage.

INDIANAPOLIS — After a murky and slow start, Tuesday took us on quite the weather ride across central Indiana. The day began under a thick blanket of dense fog, prompting over 10 school districts to issue two-hour delays due to drastically reduced visibility.

Filtered sunshine quickly took over, and with the help of daytime heating, temperatures surged to near 80°. That warmup, combined with high humidity and a stalled frontal boundary, helped fire up scattered heavy storms, particularly across the northern third of the state.

Eyes on the West: Storms moving in

Now our focus shifts westward. A new round of wet and stormy weather is approaching quickly — already crossing the Mississippi River and expected to move into Indiana between 9-10 p.m., give or take.

Plan ahead for a wet and stormy night. While not everyone will see severe weather, areas of heavy rain are likely, and embedded strong to severe gusts develop, especially in stronger storm cells that may be more favored south of I-70.

Wet Wednesday morning

The Wednesday morning commute looks messy. Expect wet roads, rain gear, and slower travel as the system continues to push through. Rain will begin tapering by midday, and we may even see some peeks of sunshine into the afternoon.

Most areas will receive 0.50″ to 1″ of rain, but localized pockets near and south of I-70 could see 2″ to 3″ where heavier bands develop. Flash flooding isn’t widespread, but low-lying or poorly drained areas may see brief issues.

Thursday cool down, then sunshine returns

After the soggy stretch, Thursday brings cooler temperatures, cloud cover, and some lingering showers during the day. But once again, some late-day sunshine may help warm us into the low to mid-70s.

And the good news? We’re still on track for a beautiful weekend just in time for Operation Football and other fall festivities. Expect mainly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 70s, with some locations pushing 80°+ by Sunday.

  1. Haha, looks like Indianas weather is really pulling out all the stops! 80° one day, potential severe gusts the next – its like the state got a sudden case of energy. Cant wait for the soggy commute tomorrow, though! Perfect excuse to stay inside and binge-watch my favorite shows. And the weekend forecast? Beautiful! Just in time for Operation Football, I guess well need those extra snacks for the power outages caused by those possible severe wind gusts. Thanks for the heads-up, WTHR Weather Team – youve definitely made my weekend plans more interesting! 🌧️🏈🍿wedding vows script
