Wrexham are making big changes to their squad this summer, which has proven to be bad news for Elliot Lee.
Elliot Lee joined Wrexham from Luton Town in 2022 and has been key to the club making history with three successive promotions.
The Dragons have already waved goodbye to one club legend in the form of Paul Mullin, and Phil Parkinson is ready to move on more key players this summer.
As we revealed last week, Ollie Palmer has been offered to multiple clubs, with his former team taking an interest.
Now, it has emerged this week that Elliot Lee could leave Wrexham after falling out of favour.
Winners from Elliot Lee leaving Wrexham
Josh Windass
Wrexham lacked quality depth in the attacking midfield department last season, with Lee the only natural option.
The Red Dragons have since secured a major coup in the current window, landing Josh Windass on a free.
Windass would likely have competed with Lee for a regular starting berth had he stayed, but his potential exit means the former Sheffield Wednesday man’s place in the eleven is pretty much nailed on most weeks.
Harry Ashfield
Similarly, the door should now be open for rising star Harry Ashfield to earn more minutes this season.
Wrexham fans have raved about Ashfield during his solid performances in pre-season, but did express concern he won’t get a chance in the Championship.
He’s still unlikely to be a regular starter, but if Lee goes, the academy product could become the natural back-up to Windass.
Phil Parkinson
After a busy summer transfer window, Wrexham are being impacted by Championship squad rules.
At the time of writing, six first-team players will have to be left out of Phil Parkinson’s 25-man squad for the 2025/26 season.
Parkinson has commented on players leaving amid the EFL restriction, and it looks as though Lee could be one of those names.

Losers from Elliot Lee leaving Wrexham
Elliot Lee
Lee has been one of the most important players in Wrexham’s rise up the EFL, playing a pivotal role in every season he has been at the club.
While other players signed in the National League were largely forced out in 2024/25, the ex-Luton man remained key and even ended the season as their top goalscorer in all competitions (9).
But should he leave, it’s likely he will be joining a club in a lower division than the Championship or, if he does stay in the second tier, will move to a side with lower ambitions than Wrexham, who want to be in the Premier League by 2027.
Ollie Palmer
As already mentioned, Mullin has left, and Palmer’s future is heavily in doubt this summer.
Fans may want to see the 33-year-old stick around for another year, but if Wrexham are willing to move on Lee, who was much more crucial last term and plays in a position with a lot less competition, it seems inevitable Palmer will go as well.
It will be the end of an era at Wrexham, with three of their previously best attackers all leaving at the same time, but that is the price that must be paid when a team moves up so many divisions in such a short space of time.
